Rathcoole - Whitewell Interface Network

The Rathcoole-Whitewell Interface Network was set up in late 2005 to address problems relating to violence orchestrated by both Loyalist and Nationalist youths in public areas within the Newtownabbey borough. Some members were in effect policing the situation, moving the youths on, however without cross community participation the impact of what the community representatives were doing was marginal as the youths tended to move the problem to a different location. The network now includes a Mobile Phone Rumour Control component and comprises activists from both traditional communities who meet monthly to engage in practical discussions for the ongoing development of non-violent responses to interface conflict.

North Belfast Developing Leadership Initiative

The North Belfast Developing Leadership Initiative exists to transform the conflictual relationships between the people of North Belfast through conflict intervention, dialogue, education, research, political analysis and leadership skills development thereby contributing to the creation of a script for second track peace and relationship building.

The initiatve is a partnership between InterComm, the De Bono Foundation and the Conflict Intervention Programme and is one of the Community Empowerment Partnerships set up by the government-sponsored North Belfast Community Action Unit.
